Our Origin Story
Our journey began in 1973 when co-founders Mike and Henrietta Perry moved to a historic 150-acre farm. While making their new home, they discovered old hand-hewn logs hidden behind the walls. This sparked their passion for the lives of our Appalachian ancestors—those who built their homes, grew their food, and navigated the beautiful mountains we cherish today.
Growth and Development
Heritage Farm officially opened to the public on May 4, 1996. Initially, we welcomed visitors only during our annual Spring Festival. In 2006, we began offering regular hours for year-round exploration. Since then, we've expanded to include multiple museums and exciting activities that showcase the diverse stories of Appalachian life.

In 2023, we're thrilled to introduce a family-friendly musical titled "Down in the Holler," which tells the story of Heritage Farm through the eyes of Mike and Henrietta.

Created by former MU professor Jesse Nolan, this two-person show will premiere at our Spring Festival on May 6th and is perfect for both school groups and public audiences.
Engage with Us
For those wanting to engage further, we offer guided tours tailored to your interests, opportunities to care for our animals, and blacksmithing classes that teach valuable skills and life lessons.
